Good office design informs your company culture, supports your staff and is good business. Its fundamental that your work environment is not only fit for purpose, but is also a visually appealing, comfortable and an inspirational place to be.
Designing and developing an office fitout requires a lot of time and consideration. It is highly recommended that you partner with an experienced design and build team to ensure your investment will reap rewards for your business.
We asked our new Design Director, Cameron Crispin to explore why office design matters. Cameron’s insights are fresh reflect the new industry trend that office design can influence everything from how productive your staff will be to how to engage your client. But lets explore these one by one..
-
It affects who you are Architecture and design can support or even change an organisations culture, by building it – literally. First things first, start a discussion about who you are. Some businesses (like their office) evolve as they go along and have never articulated a company culture. What you do with your office space speaks to your company values. You can build a Green Star certified space to show your commitment to the environment, or you can include kid friendly areas for working parents. If you want a culture that focuses on teamwork, make sure to leave plenty of gathering space for collaboration. If creativity is important, show it with inspiring art and places to play around.
-
Improved workflow We are so busy working, that we rarely take the time to step back and consider how we work. Not all businesses are the same so there are no hard and fast rules for office design. You may need a mix of areas for collaboration, concentration, flexibility and structure to nurture your team. It might be time to rethink how you’ve always done things.
-
Happy Healthy Productive Staff Your office design matters to your employees’ health. Ergonomics, natural light, indoor plants, and varied work location and posture all play a significant role in enabling your team to do their best work.
-
Beauty Is Essential An individual and inspiring office isn’t just a nice place to be for most of your waking life, it also makes us feel professional and cared about. People do judge a book by its cover, so by aligning your office design with who you are on the inside, your company will impress clients and attract the best talent.
-
Value Having a plan, procurement schedule and an accurate budget will go a long way to making your office transformation a smooth and enjoyable process.
Office design matters. You probably don’t need to build a tree house next to your reception desk, but you do need to think about how your staff will feel at work, the best way to foster productivity and what story you’re telling to the people you interact with. When you get your space right, the investment will pay off. Do you have a question for Cameron on workplace design and how it can benefit you?
