As we continue to navigate through COVID-19 and preventing the spread, Sydney Businesses are looking to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the workspace.
There is no denying that a combination of cleaning and disinfection will be most effective in removing the COVID-19 virus.
With a 2nd wave looming, it is no surprise that Sydney employers and employees alike are concerned about how the virus may spread through the workplace.
Whilst Serious respiratory illnesses are generally spread through coughing or sneezing, touching objects like keyboards and phones with contaminated hands, and touching your face after touching contaminated objects, can all lead to COVID-19 symptoms.
Keeping the workplace clean can be a challenge taking the following steps can help control the limiting exposure to prevent the spread of the flu and other viruses.
-
Wash Your Hands
There is no denying that the health advice is clear. Keeping your hands clean is one the most important steps to avoid the spread of germs
Safe Work Australia recommends washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Employers can remind employees when to wash their hands, including:
- After using the bathroom.
- Before, during and after food preparation.
- Before eating food.
- After blowing their nose, coughing or sneezing.
- After caring for someone who is sick or after changing a child’s diaper.
- After handling pets or other animals or their food and waste.
- After touching garbage.
Alcohol-based hand sanitizers should also contain 60 percent to 95 percent alcohol, washing with soap and water is preferable, particularly if hands are visibly dirty.
-
Sneezing and Coughing Etiquette In The Workspace
Practice good hygiene etiquette and help prevent the spread of germs with these guidelines:
- Avoid coughing or sneezing into your hands;
- Do not cover your mouth with your hands to sneeze. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or upper sleeve when you cough or sneeze;
- Putting used tissue in a wastebasket.
Simple hygiene practices will help prevent the outbreaks of coronavirus as they spread through close contact with sick people. The critical time to practice good hygiene etiquette is when you are sick, especially when coughing or sneezing.
-
Clean Your Workstation
Employers should encourage employees and housekeeping staff to routinely clean all frequently touched surfaces in the workplace, such as keyboards, remote controls, desks, countertops and doorknobs.
Will regular cleaning products kill the bug?
Best Practice suggests using cleaning agents that are usually used to clean work surfaces, doorknobs and countertops and to follow the directions on the label. It is also suggested that employers provide disposable wipes so that workers can easily wipe down commonly used surfaces.
How Can We Help?
Our approach is clear. Duval Commercial Projects adheres to the Safe Work Australia clear guidelines for a COVID Safe Workspace https://www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au/covid-19-information-workplaces/industry-information/office/cleaning
Whilst employees continue to work between the home and office and there is a revolving door of employees and clients walking through your door regular commercial cleaning will help prevent the spread. Cleaning reduces the germ load on the surface of everyday objects and allows the disinfectant to work and kill the COVID–19 virus. A specific cleaning process is also needed as a Disinfectant may not kill the virus if the surface has not been cleaned with a detergent first.
